How to Use SC-1 Hemisphere Mic Modeling for Voice Over on Windows / PC
Register the SC-1 on Windows, unlock Hemisphere DSP and native versions, choose mic models, adjust tone, and decide whether to monitor or record the modeling.
SC-1 Hemisphere Mic Modeling for Voice Over on Windows
The Universal Audio SC-1 gives your Vox Boy system a clean microphone foundation. Hemisphere lets you explore different microphone characters and shape the tone around your voice, without physically swapping microphones.
This Windows edition shows you how to register the mic, choose the right version of Hemisphere, load it correctly, and keep your recording options open.

What Youโll Learn
- Connect the SC-1 and confirm a clean signal on Windows
- Register the microphone in UA Connect
- Distinguish UAD-2/DSP Hemisphere from UADx/native Hemisphere
- Load Hemisphere into a standard Console insert
- Select SC-1 as the source and choose a destination mic model
- Use Filter, Proximity, Axis, and Output
- Compare models at similar loudness
- Keep a clean take or deliberately print the model
Get the Microphone Working First
For the Apollo Solo USB path, connect external power and a compatible PC USB cable. Connect the SC-1 by XLR to rear input 1/L, select MIC, and enable 48V after connecting the microphone.
Speak toward the side with the UA badge, use a pop filter, and set clean headroom before loading extra processing.
Register the SC-1 and Get Both Versions
In UA Connect โ Microphones โ Add New Microphone, enter the SC-1 serial number and complete registration. Open the SC-1 tile to find Hemisphere.
UAD-2 / DSP: for realtime processing in Apollo Console. It is installed with UAD software and authorized through UAD Meter & Control Panel.
UADx / Native: for a compatible Windows DAW. Activate and download it through UA Connect, completing the iLok licensing prompts. Native installation alone does not supply the Console version.
Load Hemisphere in the Right Place
On Analog 1, click a standard insert and search for Hemisphere Mic Collection. Do not use the Unison slot.
The full John Q. Kubin chain in Part 2 already fills all four standard inserts. Save a copy and replace an insert, build a lighter chain, or use native Hemisphere later on a clean recording. Watch DSP capacity as well as slot count.
Source First, Model Second
Choose SC-1 as the source microphone. Then select a destination model. The source describes the microphone that captured the audio; it is not the sound you want to emulate.
The SC-1 choices include LD-47K, LD-67 NOS, LD-87 Vintage, LD-103, LD-12, LD-251, LD-414 US, and LD-800. The PDF includes an audition exercise for comparing them with your own reads.
Core Controls
Filter: model-dependent filter options; check the displayed setting instead of assuming every model uses the same cutoff.
Proximity: changes the modeled low-frequency proximity effect.
Axis: models the tonal response of angling a microphone. It does not physically redirect the SC-1 or erase the room.
Output: helps match levels so a louder model does not automatically win your comparison.
Hear It or Print It?
With direct Analog 1 recording, UAD MON lets you hear standard-insert Hemisphere without printing it. UAD REC records its processing. Unison remains recorded in either mode.
For the most flexible comparison, capture an uncolored SC-1 take and place native Hemisphere early in your DAWโs playback chain. Preserve the original file, and do not apply Hemisphere a second time to audio that already has modeling printed into it.
Use one monitoring path at a time. The PDF explains the Console and native workflows, double-monitoring fixes, missing plug-ins, and saving your sound.
One mic. Many voices.
