[ About Amy ]
Amy Dubose
Professional Voice Actor

Amy works across commercial, corporate narration, e-learning, telephony, and character voice β€” with credits including Apple, Amazon and a steady roster of agency and direct clients. She was Vox Boy's very first Founding Operator, and the first working VA to put the VB1 Pro through its paces in a real session environment.

She made this setup guide entirely on her own initiative. We didn't commission it, or even know it was coming. She received her kit, figured out every step, and immediately filmed it so the next person wouldn't have to go through the guesswork alone. That's the kind of professional she is β€” and the kind of community member this program is built around. We're proud to feature her here. If this guide helped you, go follow her and send her some work.

These recordings were made simultaneously with both mics positioned side-by-side. No post-processing applied to either file β€” what you hear is what you get, straight from the hardware.

Tips From The Booth

Hard-won lessons from working voice actors, podcasters, and audio pros. No theory β€” just what actually works.

01
ACOUSTICS

Your Room Is Your First Plugin

No amount of processing will fix a bad-sounding room. In hotels, pull mattresses off beds and lean them against walls. Hang coats in open closets. The more soft material around you, the less reverb hitting your mic β€” and the cleaner your raw take.

02
GAIN STAGING

Get Your Gain Right Before You Touch EQ

Set your input gain so your loudest peaks hit around -12dB on the meter. This gives you headroom to process without clipping, and your plugins will behave the way they were designed to. EQ and compression sound completely different at wrong gain levels.

03
MONITORING

Mix With Headphones When Traveling

Closed-back headphones like the Beyerdynamic DT 770 let you hear detail that room acoustics mask. On the road, your Beyerdynamics become your mixing reference β€” learn how your voice sounds through them and you'll always have a consistent benchmark.

04
PERFORMANCE

Record More Takes Than You Think You Need

Your best performance is rarely your first. Set a mental rule: never submit a job with fewer than 3 complete takes. Not because clients need options, but because you'll deliver differently each time β€” and your third take almost always has more confidence than your first.
