Your Twin remains wired into your permanent studio setup, while the Apollo Solo stays packed inside your Vox Boy as a dedicated portable voice-over interface. The goal is not to replace your Twin — it is to remove the friction of constantly unplugging, repacking, traveling with, and rebuilding your home studio.

The idea is not that the Solo is a “smaller Twin.” It is the travel tool that does the VO job.
Your UAD Plug-Ins Can Follow You
If your Apollo Twin and Apollo Solo are registered under the same compatible Universal Audio account System, your licensed UAD DSP plug-ins can be authorized for the Solo as well.
That means you generally do not need to repurchase the same UAD DSP plug-ins simply because you added an Apollo Solo.

- Choosing the same UA System as your Twin when prompted
- Opening UAD Meter & Control Panel

Bring Your Voice-Over Sound — Not Your Twin
Your plug-in licenses are one piece of the puzzle. Your actual voice-over chain and settings are separate.
The guide shows you how to move your preferred VO chain from your Twin to the Solo using a Channel Strip Preset.
For a single voice-over channel, this is the cleanest method:
- Save your VO channel preset on the Apollo Twin
- Give it an obvious name such as MY HOME VO CHAIN
- Move the preset file to your travel computer if necessary
- Connect the Apollo Solo
- Open UAD Console
- Load the preset onto Analog 1
Your plug-in chain and knob settings can transfer, while hardware microphone gain still needs to be set for the Solo. The guide also explains how to move an entire UAD Console session when appropriate.
Twin vs. Solo for Voice Over
The Apollo Twin remains the stronger permanent studio hub.
The Apollo Solo is intentionally simpler.
The Solo has one DSP core, so extremely heavy Twin processing chains may need to be simplified. But for a focused one-microphone Vox Boy voice-over chain, the Solo is designed around a much leaner portable workflow.
The practical setup becomes:

On the Road: Apollo Solo + Vox Boy
No desk teardown.
No forgotten Twin power supply.
No rebuilding the studio every time you leave town.
Important Power Note
For Vox Boy Mac + Thunderbolt users, the Apollo Solo Thunderbolt is bus-powered, meaning it receives power through its Thunderbolt connection rather than requiring a separate Solo power supply.
The Windows-only Apollo Solo USB version is different and requires external power.
