Universal Audio Apollo Solo + UAD Console Voice-Over Setup
Your Apollo Solo is installed and registered. Now itβs time to turn it into a professional voice-over signal chain.
Part 2 of the Vox Boy Apollo Solo Setup Guide walks you through UAD Console, Apollo DSP plug-ins, Vox Boy voice-over settings, microphone gain, realtime processing, room-noise reduction, and saving your own working presets.
The goal is simple: create a polished starting sound you can open quickly, then make only small adjustments for your own voice and recording environment.

The Vox Boy Voice-Over Chain
The supplied Vox Boy starting chain is built specifically around realtime Apollo Solo DSP:
Neve Preamp β UA 610-B β 1176LN Legacy β Pultec EQP-1A Legacy β C-Suite C-Vox
Each processor has a specific job:
Neve Preamp
Adds foundation, presence, and preamp character.
UA 610-B
Adds tube-style warmth, body, and broad tonal shaping.
1176LN Legacy
Controls peaks, evens out voice-over delivery, and adds density.
Pultec EQP-1A Legacy
Provides broad, musical EQ for body, presence, and polish.
C-Suite C-Vox
Provides realtime reduction of steady room noise, ambience, HVAC, traffic, and untreated-room character.
The guide identifies the UA 610-B, 1176LN Legacy, and Pultec EQP-1A Legacy as included with Apollo Solo, while the Neve Preamp and C-Vox may require a separate license depending on your UA account.

Load the Vox Boy Settings Once
The downloadable Vox Boy .uadmix file contains the inserted UAD plug-ins and their starting settings.
Open the session in UAD Console once, make any small room or gain adjustments you need, then Save As your own version.
UAD Console remembers its current settings between launches, so in normal use you do not need to rebuild or reload the entire chain every time you reconnect your Vox Boy.
--
Get the Microphone Right First
Before changing plug-in settings, make sure your SC-1 is receiving a clean signal.
For Vox Boy voice-over:
- Select MIC
- Turn 48V ON for the SC-1
- Leave PAD off for normal VO
- Speak at your actual performance level
- Set your gain so loud reads peak around -12 dBFS without clipping
If your level is wrong, fix the Apollo input gain first rather than adjusting every plug-in.
--
UAD REC vs. UAD MON
UAD Console also lets you choose whether the processing is actually recorded.
UAD REC β Print It
You hear the processed Vox Boy chain and the standard insert processing is recorded into your DAW.
UAD MON β Keep It Flexible
You hear the processed chain while recording, but the standard-insert signal sent to your DAW remains dry.
Unison processing is the exception β Unison is always recorded.
